Hurricane Katrina Recovery

I would like everyone reading this to spread the word to all you know! I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, right where Hurricane Katrina came through. In Camille, my house had about a foot of water that rushed in and rushed out. The owners at that time didn't have to move out. I do NOT live in a flood zone! In Katrina, I had over 10' of water and 4 trees on or through my roof.

The media and our government would like you to think all is well here, but it is NOT. Thousands of people still live in FEMA campers ridden with formaldehyde fumes. The grants to rebuild were, for the most part, woefully inadequate, due to undervaluing homes and reducing percentages of damages. There are billions of dollars left in the state funds for rebuilding, what they call *excess*, none of which are available to those who are still not back in their homes. There is a class action lawsuit pending on that.

Foreclosures are EVERYWHERE! People have spent all they had to rebuild and fallen behind on mortgages for any number of reasons and the mortgage companies are like vultures, just waiting it out.

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder is rampant. The more you try to cope with it all, the more is piled on, until there are no coping skills left. There are thousands of people flat out unable to work anymore, there is absolutely NO HELP for them in terms of income....SSI takes years to get, even though you may CLEARLY qualify for it today. The need is immediate and critical!

The suicide rate has skyrocketed and more will occur in the coming 6 months as more and more people lose their homes and have no real way to recover. Everyone still not back in their homes is struggling to stay afloat and continue rebuilding.

I received a comment about being tired of hearing people crying for help until that person knows they've done everything possible to help themselves and that handouts are generally not appreciated. While there will always be those who milk the system and demand handouts, that is not what I'm talking about here. That is precisely the perception I am trying to dispel.

If you have never been in a natural disaster, I guess you cannot imagine all the ripple effects that will occur. I couldn't, until it happened to me. For the people I am talking about, help is the only answer. These are not the system milkers, actually those people have fared better than most. These are the people who have always worked for what they had and have lost it all. These are people who have poured every cent into rebuilding homes and lives and have run into one brick wall after another. What they want is to have their lives back, live in their homes and go to work, like they used to before the storm. And without help, that is impossible.

Please read what follows, I didn't ask for anyone to send money, I asked for prayers for those of us still not back in our homes and for the word to spread that things are not what *they* would like you to think, which, hopefully, would result in more prayers going up!

We all need your prayers! To all the volunteers who have come to help and are still coming, we thank every one of you from the bottom of our hearts.

Please tell everyone you know what it is really like here, because the mainstream media and the government won't!

prayers are good. coasttocoastam.com has a prayer tree if you can get them to list your prayer, you've got more power. i think they might even do a story on your area if you have a spokesperson. prisonplanet, rense probably have the finger on your situation.
